TOP 5 largest Megayachts in 2015

The largest private yachts, some available for charter, some hidden from public view by extremely private owners, are mind boggling by any standards. The subject of much debate, the list of the Top 5 superyachts by length is continually being challenged as newcomers usurp the title.

Number 1 - AZZAM

Azzam

At 590 ft 7"(180m), overtook ECLIPSE as the world's largest superyacht in April 2013. Her main saloon alone is 95 ft long with an open layout and no pillars. Built by Lürssen for the President of the United Arab Emirates, AZZAM (Arabic for "resolute"), is capable of travelling at 32 knots, powered by a combination of two gas turbines and two diesel engines, and with her comparatively shallow draft of 4.3m she can get up close to reefs and beaches in exotic destinations.

Number 2 - ECLIPSE

(Blohm + Voss) held the title of world's largest luxury yacht from her launch in 2010 until April of 2013 when she was then herself eclipsed by the current number one, AZZAM. She is 536 ft in length and has a top speed of 22 knots, with interiors from Terence Disdale Design and naval architecture by Francis Design. Built for Russian magnate, Roman Abramovich, ECLIPSE features two heli pads, 24 guest cabins, two swimming pools, several Jacuzzis, and its own discotheque! It is also equipped with three large tenders, and a mini-submarine.

Number 3 - DUBAI

Owned by the ruler of the Emirate of Dubai and the Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, DUBAI is 531 ft 6" (162m) long and can accommodate 115 guests. Designed by Andrew Winch, with interior design by Platinum Yachts, it cost US$400 million. DUBAI 531 ft 6"  has previously been known as Platinum, Panhandle and Golden Star. Among her many impressive features, such as a spectacular circular staircase with glass steps that change colour, DUBAI boasts her own submarine.

Number 4 - AL SAÏD

With lavish accommodations for 65 guests (plus a reported crew of 150), helipad, huge entertaining and reception spaces, and a large concert hall that can accommodate a 50-piece orchestra, AL SAÏD is also from the Lürssen yard, measures 508 ft 6" (155m) and was launched in 2008. AL SAÏD features exterior styling by Espen Oeino, with interior design by Redman Whitely Dixon. Built for the Sultan of Oman, at the time of her launch she was the world's second largest yacht.

Number 5 - TOPAZ

Just 10 inches longer than the megayacht PRINCE ABDULAZIZ, TOPAZ, built by the Lürssen yard in Bremen Germany and launched in 2012, is 483 ft 2". With interiors designed by Terence Disdale Design and the exterior by Tim Heywood, TOPAZ boasts an on deck jacuzzi, double heli pads, large swimming pool, massive tender garage, oversize swim platform, distinctive underwater LED lights, plus a fitness centre, cinema and a conference room. TOPAZ can often be seen in Monaco and along the French Riviera.

For the future Top 5 List, there is currently a fleet of behemoths under construction in Germany, the Netherlands, Italy and Malaysia, all over 150m. One, known as EVEREST, is expected to emerge at 200m (660ft), more like a luxury liner than a megayacht. Then there's PROJECT TRIPLE DEUCE, believed to be 222m (728ft), anticipated for launch in 2018 at a cost of more than US$1 billion.
