New in 2015, the product of her owners’ flamboyant aesthetic and the skills of interior designer Tiziana Vercellesi, the 150-foot (46m) Sanlorenzo SCORPION is now available for luxury charter in the Caribbean.
Sumptuous and lavish at every turn, no expense was spared in the creation of this superlative luxury charter yacht, which is evident in the engineering, design and décor of SCORPION.
Built for a connoisseur family with a taste for extravagant materials, elegantly combined, SCORPION stands alone in the charter fleet, boasting five decks of sheer opulence. She was designed for long-range cruising with complete self-sufficiency without refuelling for more than 3,500 nautical miles.
From the exterior, SCORPION is a vision in multi-hued LED lighting, for a captivating and unique atmosphere that sets the stage for a charter experience that is beyond this world.
For her discerning guests, luxury charter yacht SCORPION accommodates up to12 guests in five spacious suites. The full-beam Master Suite on the main deck includes a king-size bed, seating area, a study and two private terraces. The Master ensuite spoils the primary charter couple with jet shower and Jacuzzi, all with onyx and wild agate finishes, back-lit for dramatic effect.
The lower deck offers two deluxe VIP Cabins and two Twin Guest Cabins convertible into double bed. All cabins are equipped with ensuite bathrooms and entertainment systems.
Inside, SCORPION is decorated in vivid art deco style with furniture by Architema and Fendi. Finishings are nothing short of breathtaking in bronze brass, with inlays of mother-of-pearl and timbers that range from dark mahogany to light "Abice artico" wood.
While fabrics are neutral and classic, the detailing in stainless steel, back-lit onyx, textured tiles, glass and mirrors add impact throughout. Of special note is SCORPION'S staircase which boasts a crystal sculpture that changes its colour at every deck, from blue to turquoise-green. Mosaics from Moscow are fascinating pieces of art unto themselves.
With five levels available for amusement, guests will never lack entertainment nor the space to find a tranquil corner to relax and recline under the Caribbean sunshine. On the Sundeck, barbeque, bar, sunpads and lounge area will be the major attractions.
The Upper Deck comprises an aft lounge area with extendable dining table for up to 14 guests, while the main deck too has a comfortable aft lounge area for meals or entertaining.
For guests who wish to be close to the water, working on their health and their suntans, SCORPION has a vast stern area with a well-equipped beach club and fitness centre, including a gymnasium equipped with top of the line Technogym Kinesis machine, treadmill, free weights and bike, plus a sauna for complete relaxation and Himalayan salt wall for halotherapy. What the sea air doesn't cure, the salt therapy most certainly will!
Guests will never be bored onboard, thanks to two garages full of watertoys and a skilled crew eager to instruct guests in their use. For instant access to the multitude of watertoys and tenders, there's a built-in hydraulic ladder off the large, level swim platform, and massive garage astern that houses the main 7m tender. The second large garage at the bow houses the arsenal of watertoys which include Yamaha jetskis, Seabobs, Jet Surf Boards, Fly Boards, paddle boards, wakeboards, waterskis and snorkelling gear as well as various towable inflatables.
Cuisine onboard is taken to another echelon, with award-winning chef Jilles Kuppens in charge of catering to the palate of every guest. At the recent Antigua Charter Yacht Show, Jilles placed third among all entrants with a menu that wowed even the most hardened charter yacht professional.
His entrée was a demonstration of his prowess with local ingredients, something guests will rhapsodise about long after their charter experience.
Spiny Lobster poached in smoked butter, tomato pickled with Carvi, dried and fresh beefheart tomato. Grapefruit, Citrusgel, citrus pith puree with bergamot, pickled small onions: white with lemon, red with chilli and thyme, Duck Skin cracklings caramelised with honey and Antiguan Hotsauce, crispy quinoa, ice plant, nasturtium and armoricaine Lobster Sauce.
This was followed by a Main Course of Hare filet 'a la royale', Jerusalem artichoke textures, Cuban cigar oil, goose liver and rum and 'speculaas', braised romaine salad, cepe mushrooms, pea shoots and Hare Jus with coffee.
To top off this veritable kaleidoscope of flavours, Chef Jilles prepared a Sorrel (hibiscus) jelly with poppy seed biscuit, poppy seed mousse with yoghurt, merengue and poppy seed ice cream, cranberry compote, crystallised red currants, blackberry, marshmellows with mastique, red veins sorrel, atsina cress and candied yuzu peel.
Charter broker and founder of Luxury Charter Group, Jeni Tidmarsh, was a guest onboard SCORPION during the Antigua Show, inspecting the yacht, enjoying the unique brand of hospitality and meeting Captain and crew.
"I was extremely impressed with the crew's ease and discretion. They are a polished team who work well together under the direction of experienced Captain Stefhan Malherbe. The ambience onboard was welcoming and warm, which is amazing for a yacht of this size and elaborate décor. While interiors are fascinating and stimulating, they are enveloping – like a family maison that invites a response from guests."
"SCORPION is a work of art and at the same time, a beautiful pleasure palace fit for royalty, with a genuine, talented crew that pull out all stops to cater to charter guests. Even those who know the Caribbean inside out will discover a new perspective onboard SCORPION."
