MY AZZAM, (180.61,. 593ft) the largest mega yacht in the world at 180 metres, was launched by German yard, Lurssen in 2013. AZZAM outstrips the previous record-holder, 163.5m ECLIPSE launched in 2009 by more than 15m.
AZZAM, which means dedication in Arabic, cost around US$605 million to build and boasts an incredible 94,000 horsepower, making it one of the quickest mega yachts in the world, capable of up to 30 knots.
A world-class team was assembled and directed in all areas of development of this sophisticated project by Engineer Mubarak Saad al Ahbabi. The brief was to build a luxurious large mega yacht which featured a timeless and innovative design that could travel at high speed even in warm and shallow waters while still providing sophisticated and luxurious accommodation for its guests.
AZZAM'S technical engineering was developed by Lurssen, her exterior design by Nauta Yachts and her interior styling by Christophe Leoni, resulting in what experts maintain is among the most complex yachts ever built.
AZZAM accommodated 36 guests in 18 palatial cabins, plus 60 crew in 30 cabins.
Considered a milestone in the mega yacht realm, AZZAM breaks new ground in many ways, in terms of her technology, dimensions and performance. As well as being the largest mega yacht in the world at an unprecedented 180 metres, she claims another record of having been built in just three years following one year of engineering.
