ABOUT NEW ENGLAND YACHT CHARTERS

New England is comprised of six states: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island located in the northeast corner of the United States offering a remarkable diversity for luxury yacht charters. From Long Island Sound, bordering the skyscrapers of New York through rustic villages and colonial towns all the way through to Camden and the Grand Banks, one lifetime is not enough for all that the north-eastern seaboard has to offer. 

Starting in the south in Connecticut Mystic Seaport is a Disneyworld for anyone who loves boats. This is the largest maritime museum in the States with a recreated19th century coastal village, preserved working shipyard, numerous nautical exhibits and an incredible waterfront packed with historic vessels to explore.

Near the head of Narragansett Bay, Newport, Rhode Island is clearly the yachting centre of the north-east, and rightfully so. This was where the America's Cup was contested for decades, until Australia finally wrestled it away. Bannister Wharf, home to the colorful and lively Candy Store restaurant/bar of the Cup fame, is the centre of the action. Downtown is a photographer's dream with perfectly preserved landmarks and architecture dating back to the 1700s at every turn. The gloriously restored mansions filled with extravagant, irreplaceable antiques in their stunning locations are an unparalleled scene. Over the summer there's always something going on here with numerous events and festivals, including the world-famous Newport jazz Festival in August.

Massachusetts is home to Cape Cod known for it's quaint fishing villages, gentrified towns, historic lighthouses, pretty beaches and New England seaside way of life. Nantucket Island, once the whaling capital of the world, and aside from cars and cellphones, not much has changed since the 17th Century. Old fashioned lamps line the streets and yachts now have moorings where once were whaling ships prior to setting out on year long voyages. Tourism and art have replaced whale oil on Nantucket, which now boasts an array of very good restaurants and streets lined with art galleries and museums.

Martha's Vineyard, an island located just south of Cape Cod, is the most famous summer colony in New England attracting celebrities, artists, day trippers and back-to-nature types. Enjoy fine dining in genteel Edgartown, visit Menemsha, where Jaws was filmed and don't miss the Victorian gingerbread architecture of Oaks Bluff.   

Maine is home to some of America's finest boat builders - and as they say "They like their boats pretty up here". Along a much-indented coastline that spans hundreds of miles the harbor towns are pretty too. There is breathtaking views - from red granite bays and sandy beaches to glacier-carved mountains, rolling meadows, marshes and dense evergreen forest. 

The lighthouses of New England are legendary. With close to 200 they are each distinctive, many having dramatic appeal to photographers and all being beautiful for the part they have played in keeping those who call the sea home safe; helping all manner of maritime vessels navigate rocky coasts, rough waters and treacherous seas.

New England is also famous for its cuisine, from five star gourmet restaurants to tiny fish shacks, this is reputedly some of the best food in America. With a bountiful coastline and the predominance of seaports it is little wonder that much of it is based around seafood - lobster rolls are ubiquitous and delicious as are clam chowders and bakes. And of course oysters and shrimps, mussels and squid all abound.
