Suggested Itineraries
Cruising distances can be short and days set at a leisurely pace, as islands and harbours lie at convenient intervals throughout the cruising area. You'll enjoy a pleasant combination of mooring on town quays, in bays with quiet anchorages, and in modern marinas.
The most popular Croatia yacht charter itinerary involves visiting the DALMATIAN ISLANDS, running along the Croatian coastline between SPLIT and DUBROVNIK. Both cities have easy access to international flights, ferries and charter yachts. Most Croatian yachts are based near SPLIT.
SPLIT is the cultural and economic centre of Central Dalmatia with a warm Mediterranean temper. The city faces the seafront with a boulevard that comes alive every evening. You can't help but feel the sense of family as young and old, well-dressed, stroll, interact and play together. Split faces the seafront, the 'Riva' boulevard is the living room of Split and a regular 'catwalk', where one goes to see ... and be seen! It has a fortress-like complex at its centre, Diocletian's Palace, was erected by the Roman emperor in the 4th century together with the Cathedral of St. Doimus which is today the heart and soul of the city. Within its white stone walls and under its courtyards and galleries are shops, bars, cafes, cathedrals, several houses and hotels.
At the other end of Dalmatia is DUBROVNIK. This magnificent walled city is justifiably known as the "Pearl of the Adriatic". While the city suffered through a massive earthquake in 1667 it has succeeded in preserving its stunning Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque churches, monasteries, palaces and fountains. With the sparkling Adriatic Sea on the doorstep it is easy to understand why Dubrovnik is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most prominent tourist destinations in the Mediterranean Sea.
Between these two book-ends of Dalmatia lie an amazing array of islands to visit including fashionable Hvar, romantic Korcula, lush Mljet, tranquil Sipan and historic Vis.
In the far north you could start your charter in Venice in Italy or in Pula on the Istrian Peninsula. This is an exhilarating sailing area with sheltered waters, steady winds and a variety of anchorages. The city of PULA is crammed with museums and is steeped in history. Its well-preserved amphitheatre still seats 26,000 spectators, making it one of the biggest in the world. While ROVINJ with steep cobbled streets and piazzas remains one of the last true Mediterranean fishing ports as well as one of the mjost stunning.
ZADAR is midway along the coast with easiest access to the more barren and sparsely populated Kornati National Park, a group of over 100 barren islands, rocks and reefs. Their stark beauty contrasts greatly with the lush, green, pine-clad islands further south. They have very little vegetation, very few restaurants but offer peace and beautiful, clear water for swimming.
