Sunseeker International began as a tiny company building 17 ft runabouts. Today the company employs a dedicated team of over 2,000 highly skilled workers building exceptionally popular charter vessels and has well and truly broken into the superyacht category with over 100 luxury yachts built ranging from 100ft to the outstanding flagship, the mega yacht BLUSH.
This staunchly British yard was founded in 1969 by Robert Braithwaite in the English seaside town of Poole in Dorset. Braithwaite had a background in selling boats, mostly small runabouts by American brand Owens Cruisers Inc. When Owens Cruisers withdrew from the European market Braithwaite acquired the local factory's boat moulds and Sunseeker was born.
The first craft to launch was the Sovereign 17 in 1971, closely followed by the Sovereign 20. By the late seventies, Sunseeker boats were selling well in the UK and northern Europe and the burgeoning Mediterranean market.
In the 80s, Sunseeker listened to feedback from owners and invested in larger, more lifestyle focused models with cockpits that could host large groups of people, more cabins and plenty of style.
In the 90s, the Predator 80 emerged, marking a new benchmark in luxury boating combined accommodation, incredible performance, range and handling like never before.
In line with owner demand and an appetite for increasingly larger motor yachts, Sunseeker invested in R&D and larger premises, breaking into the superyacht category: from the 105 Yacht and ground-breaking 37M Yacht, the 131 Yacht to the brand's flagship 155 Yacht, BLUSH, the largest and most advanced yacht from the yard and available for charter in the Mediterranean.
In September 2015, Sunseeker celebrated the delivery of its 100th luxury performance motoryacht in the 100ft+ superyacht category.
Today, Sunseeker International employs a dedicated team of over 2,000 highly skilled designers, engineers and master craftsmen supported by a worldwide network of over 80 retail and service locations, exporting c.140 yachts a year to more than 45 countries.
Sunseeker motor yachts are exceptionally popular charter vessels, thanks to their sleek profiles, race-derived V hull designs delivering high performance. They boast long range capacity and the ability to travel at pace between charter locations – thrilling and practical.
