Balconies and beach clubs are trending on modern mega yachts

Balconies herald the new era of boating as charter superyachts become floating villas. As mega yachts built for charter become larger and more laden with features, quenching the appetite of owners and charter guests for more space, more novelties, more activities onboard, the yearning swells for a closer connection with the water – hence, the rise of the balcony and beach club.

Blush

The growing trend of cantilevered "sea terraces" on luxury mega yachts was evident at this year's Monaco Yacht Show and again at the 2017 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. Balconies are bound to be high on the wish-list of charter guests as they become de rigeur with the new breed of owners commissioning these impressive motor yachts.

Oasis

Hydraulic balconies add wow factor, lending outsiders an alluring peek into the sanctuary of the saloon or suite beyond. They add living space onboard, open these vast vessels to natural light, sea breezes and views, and create a retreat, often for the principal charter guests to savour time alone – perhaps a morsel of breakfast as the day begins, or cocktails and sweet nothings à deux illuminated only by the stars above.

Pride

As Beach Clubs become the health, fitness and watersport platform, with elaborate setups comprising gyms, saunas, equipment garage, or a bar and lounges for the ultimate in hedonism, balconies become a secondary platform for sunbathing, admiring the toys, the skills of those game enough to ride them, to access the tender as it floats past or slip into the restorative waters.
