Balconies herald the new era of boating as charter superyachts become floating villas. As mega yachts built for charter become larger and more laden with features, quenching the appetite of owners and charter guests for more space, more novelties, more activities onboard, the yearning swells for a closer connection with the water – hence, the rise of the balcony and beach club.
The growing trend of cantilevered "sea terraces" on luxury mega yachts was evident at this year's Monaco Yacht Show and again at the 2017 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. Balconies are bound to be high on the wish-list of charter guests as they become de rigeur with the new breed of owners commissioning these impressive motor yachts.
Hydraulic balconies add wow factor, lending outsiders an alluring peek into the sanctuary of the saloon or suite beyond. They add living space onboard, open these vast vessels to natural light, sea breezes and views, and create a retreat, often for the principal charter guests to savour time alone – perhaps a morsel of breakfast as the day begins, or cocktails and sweet nothings à deux illuminated only by the stars above.
As Beach Clubs become the health, fitness and watersport platform, with elaborate setups comprising gyms, saunas, equipment garage, or a bar and lounges for the ultimate in hedonism, balconies become a secondary platform for sunbathing, admiring the toys, the skills of those game enough to ride them, to access the tender as it floats past or slip into the restorative waters.
Here is our selection of the luxury charter yachts with impressive balconies and terraces, awaiting your booking to bring your dream yacht charter vacation to life.
CLOUD 9

This impeccable 242ft (74m) CRN superyacht is bursting with unique and technically brilliant features, an elegant portside reception area for guests arriving by tender, a large private terrace forward of the Owner's stateroom and a balcony from the spa/beauty salon for massages or refreshments hovering above the water.
Then, below the 12m pool on the aft deck, there's the massive Beach Club at her stern - perfect for sunbathing and as a launch platform for CLOUD 9's many water activities. The tender garage with bespoke limousine tender is to the side – yet another cutting-edge feature of this exceptional charter vessel.
CLOUD 9 is available for charter in the Mediterranean in summer and the Caribbean during winter with a professional crew of 22 to take care of the finest details.

Separated from the main salon by a stone shoji screen and opening up onto another starboard-side balcony, is the serene and spacious formal dining area.

This space features two folding terraces, one on each side of the yacht, serving as platforms with direct access to the sea.
The same area can be transformed into a garage with a controlled flooding system for the storage of a tender up to eight-metres in length. This part of the boat also houses a fully equipped, customised gym.
The internal layout hosts a large owner apartment in the bow on the main deck. With two VIP and three guest cabins on the lower deck, there is ample room for family and friends.
