Part of the Azimut-Benetti Group which produces world-class vessels in five shipyards across Italy and one in Brazil to serve South America, Azimut manufactures planing motor yachts from 10 to 37 metres that embody Italian flair and finesse and are ideal for charter
The Azimut Yachts brand was founded 1969, when Paolo Vitelli, at the time a young university student, founded Azimut Srl as a sailing boat charter business.
In 1970, yachting brands appointed the company to distribute their boats in Italy and Azimut expanded its operations, adding yacht design to its repertoire. In a joint venture with Amerglass, it designed the AZ 43’ Bali, a mass-produced fibreglass boat, which was an immediate success.
The company gradually expanded its range, with the launch of the AZ 32’ Targa in 1977 and the Azimut 105’ Failaka in 1982, which became the biggest mass-produced fibreglass yacht at the time.
Then in 1985, Azimut acquired Benetti, based in Viareggio, which had been building boats since 1873.
This milestone heralded a new age for Azimut, moving into construction of its own marque of yachts. Azimut became known for its new style and industry standards, revolutionising aspect of boat building, such as large frameless windows, electric seats and walnut interiors.
From the late 90s onwards, with the acquisition of new boat yards around Italy and investment in high-tech construction methods and R&D, Azimut has acquired a global reputation as the foremost builder of yachts and superyachts.
