Bay of Islands

The Bay of Islands has attracted sailors from around the world for over a century, with its sheltered anchorages and temperate sub-tropical climate. It is the ideal yacht charter destination, with lots of anchorages in close proximity, you can decide your itinerary as the mood takes.

The Bay of Islands is 120 miles by sea north of Auckland. By road it is a four-hour drive or by plane, a one-hour flight, north of Auckland. Ask the Team at the Luxury Charter Group about private transfers.

The Bay of Islands has a more temperate climate than Auckland, almost sub-tropical. Aptly named, the Bay is studded with islands providing an area of varied geographic beauty and unspoiled sailing grounds. There are innumerable anchorages, great fishing and diving and white sandy beaches within sheltered waters.

Auckland and the Hauraki Gulf

The Hauraki Gulf offers the yachtsman more than 1,500 sq. nautical miles of cruising and the opportunity to explore numerous islands with sheltered anchorages and deserted beaches.

Auckland is a bustling South Pacific city with a cosmopolitan lifestyle - and right on its doorstep is a fantastic cruising vacation playground, the Hauraki Gulf, with 76 islands, and miles of beautiful coastline to explore. Within 30 minutes of clearing at Auckland International Airport, you can board your private yacht, and within two hours of the marina the islands of the inner Gulf are within easy reach.

With over 200 sheltered anchorages, in the Hauraki Gulf you could choose to visit a different stopover every weekend for a year and not return to the same bay. Distances between islands and anchorages are generally further than they are in the Bay of Islands.

Marlborough Sounds

The Marlborough Sounds are a yacht charter paradise. Formed by a network of submerged mountain valleys, islands and tranquil sheltered bays, bush-clad hills and there's over 1500-km of deep-water coastline to explore.  

The scenery is spectacular, ranging from towering forest clad mountains, through tranquil bays and coves to the rugged exposed shoreline of D'Urville Island. West of D'Urville is Tasman Bay, where golden beaches, warmer waters and the Able Tasman National Park Walkways await.

Twenty minutes by road from Blenheim Airport (in the heart of the best wine growing region in New Zealand), Picton is usually the starting point for your cruise, although we can reposition vessels to Portage and Havelock.

Since the Marlborough Sounds are more remote and less frequented by luxury yachts, please ask the Luxury Charter Group about relocation. Despite their remoteness the Sounds do offer some unique opportunities to dine ashore at hideaway retreats.
