New Zealand is the cultural and administrative centre for the South Pacific. With a population of more than 4 million people, the country spans two main islands stretching 1000 miles (1600 kms) from north to south, between latitudes 35' and 47' South. It has an area roughly the same size as the state of Colorado in USA and slightly larger than the United Kingdom.Auckland City is the gateway to the Hauraki Gulf cruising grounds, with over 76 islands to explore, and over 200 sheltered anchorages and miles of beautiful coastline all the way north to the Bay of Islands.
The Bay of Islands is also a renowned cruising destination which combines early New Zealand history with stunning natural scenery and marine life, only 3 hours drive from Auckland.
In the South Island, the Marlborough Sounds are a cruising paradise formed by a network of submerged mountain valleys, islands and tranquil sheltered bays, bush-clad hills and over 1500-km of deep-water coastline to explore.
