Add a Walk to Your Mediterranean Luxury Yacht Charter
A charter on a luxury yacht is about pampering personal service, delicious cuisine and unlimited luxury ... heaven. However as well as relaxation you may also want to include some exercise. There are some awe-inspiring walks in the Mediterranean that you can do either while on board your yacht or as a "tag-on" pre or post your charter. Here are some of our recommendations.
But firstly what is so wonderful about walking in the Med? The weather... sunshine is so nice although for longer walks spring or autumn are probably best when the temperatures are not quite so intense. And if you are in the Med there is, of course, fabulous food. From breakfasts of croissants and fresh fruit with the best coffee to luscious lunches of bread, cheese and charcuterie, and then finishing the day with local wines and well-earned delicious dinners... bliss. So read on for a few destination suggestions...
Walking in Mallorca is a treat ... known for its beaches there's a good chance you will be the only one on the track looking out at the beautiful scenery, and beautiful scenery there's lots of. You will be rewarded with panoramic vistas of the coast and surrounding mountains. Whatever fitness or length of time you have there is much on offer.
For a challenge there are 5 summits that are over 1,000m as well as easier tracks around these Tramuntana Mountains, in the west of Mallorca, to explore. The Government has spent a good deal of money in developing these trails so you can be assured walking in Mallorca is simple and accessible.
In amongst the mountains are some very special villages including Deia, Soller, Fornalutx and Valldemossa, as well as coastal villages such as San Telmo and Porto Petro so if your ideal walk includes a long, lazy lunch this is both very Spanish and very easy.

Corsica is renowned for its demanding GR20, a 2-week gruelling affair but coastal Corsica offers several gentler walks. The capital Ajaccio is surrounded by lush slopes with a rocky ridge beyond them and golden sand below. There are some lovely walks from here including the Chemin des Crêtes (Path of the Ridges) or the even more relaxed stroll of the Route des Sanguinaires that looks out on the islands of the same name; so called as the Isles of Blood reflect a reddish hue into the sea.
For something a little longer head to Bastia for an easy 6-hour walk with some real mountain scenery as well as seaside villages. This route is on a well-marked road with little traffic and would also be suitable for a bike trip.
With rugged, maquis-cloaked stone mountains, clear mountain rivers, ancient bridges and shining seascapes, Corsica is captivating and offers a good choice of marked trails to suit every level of fitness and experience.

Rising out of the Tyrrhenian Sea, some fifteen miles off the Sicilian coast, Stromboli, one of the Aeolian Islands, is unique and charming. One of the few islands in the world with a volcano which is almost always active there is every chance you will see the fireworks. Surrounded by azure sea with black beaches of volcanic soil, beautiful white houses, and dazzling clear light, this region provides everything to make your yacht charter an unforgettable experience.
Climbing the Stromboli volcano can be an enormously rewarding experience with the most extraordinary lava viewing conditions. Here you can get "close and personal" to the fireworks in reasonable safety. You can climb to 400m unaccompanied. From here there is a viewpoint, which looks down on the Sciara del Fuoco (the blackened lava scar running down the northern side of Stromboli) and has distant but marvellous views of the eruptions.
If you do want to go to the summit then your Captain can arrange a guide and any walking gear that you require. This is a demanding 5 to 6 hour trek often undertaken late afternoon so that you reach the summit (924m) at sunset to allow optimal viewing of the crater's explosions.
And if you enjoy Stromboli the other Aeolian Islands offer similar walks and views.

One of the most scenic trails a person can do in Italy is the Cinque Terra (Five Villages) Hike along the Ligurian coast following the ancient trade routes of the Roman Empire. The walk winds its way along cliff-top footpaths overlooking the Mediterranean coast of the Italian Riviera between the Five Villages. Picturesque is an understatement! Do NOT forget your camera!
The trails are among the most beautiful in Europe. Regardless of whether you are a regular walker or just someone who is looking for some exercise in between decadent Italian feasts, this is a rewarding way to enjoy this stunning shoreline.
Again there are trails of different lengths to suit walkers of different levels so it is easy to find one that wows you. Choose between the wide, flat and paved "Lover's Lane", part of Trail #2, famous for its kissing statue, or for the more adventurous follow paths #3, 6, 7 and 8 to visit the area's famous sanctuaries, or try the mountain trails of #1, 4, 6, 9 and 10. These are the least-frequented and roughest of the group, ranging from medium to difficult.
