Experience America's Cup on your luxury charter yacht
Book your charter for the 35th America's Cup, Bermuda, June 2017 and enjoy front row seats to the on-water action. What could be better than being on board your personally chartered private yacht in Bermuda during the incredible racing of the 35th America's Cup?
In June 2017, the world's best sailors – among them Olympic medallists, world champions and champion Ironman – will compete in Bermuda for the oldest sporting trophy, contended for 160 years, the America's Cup.
For the first time, this premier international event will take place in Bermuda, an island that owes its very foundation to sailing. With legendary pink-sand beaches, endless opportunities for outdoor adventure, championship golf overlooking the ocean, enticing cuisine and an alluring island culture, Bermuda ranks among the world's top charter destinations.
Racing starts with the Louis Vuitton America's Cup Qualifiers 26 May 2017 and the top Challenger will meet Defending Champions ORACLE TEAM USA in the 35th America's Cup Match presented by Louis Vuitton beginning 17 June.
Bermuda's Great Sound will host all the on-water action, a magnificent natural amphitheater set amid a spectacular backdrop of islands and beaches. The Louis Vuitton America's Cup village is located on the South Basin of the Royal Naval Dockyard, and will be the hub of activity in terms of team bases, round the clock dining and entertainment and information about the heritage and mystique of the Auld Mug, as it's known.
No longer the preserve of sailing superyacht owners, competing far out to sea, the modern America's Cup involves high-tech foiling catamarans crewed by elite athletes.
The one-design boats, known as America's Cup Class (ACC) boats, are 15-metres long (nearly 50-feet) and are built to a design rule, but that rule allows designers and engineers to express their creativity in their designs.
They are light and swift, reaching 50 miles per hour (80kms/h) in 16 knots of wind. The close stadium racing is thrilling for spectators, on shore and on boats at close quarters, and makes for nail-biting broadcast vision – for which the event one an Emmy for extraordinary technical innovation for the 34th America's Cup in San Francisco in 2012.
Six teams have taken up the challenge. The defending champion is ORACLE TEAM USA, which won the last event with a spectacular comeback over Emirates Team New Zealand, who return as a challenger, along with Artemis Racing (SWE), Ben Ainslie Racing (GBR), Team France (FRA) and SoftBank Team Japan (JPN).
The perennially popular yacht charter destination, Bermuda is composed of 181 islands, totaling 21 square miles, and has just over 60,000 residents. Water activities, island hopping, soaking up the year-round sunshine and warm hospitality, as well as incredibly diverse cuisine, customs and culture are the many reasons charter guests return year after year to this tropical playground.
