Adventure awaits in this magical South Pacific paradise! Tahiti, where the water is about 2 degrees warmer than the air! The islands of Tahiti cover an area the size of Europe. Lots of islands and lots of water make chartering a yacht the very best way to explore this magical South Pacific paradise.

About Yacht Charters in Tahiti

Tahiti is a sophisticated South Pacific island destination where you can be as accessible or remote as you wish.  The Luxury Charter Group will advise on your best charter options based on your personal requirements.

There are five main island groups from the Marquesas in the north; to the Tuamotu atolls, Society and the Leeward Islands and the more remote Australes in the south.

The Marquesas are steep exposed islands, not sheltered by protective reefs like the Tuamotus and Leeward Islands. Nomadic yachtsmen have made the Marquesas a legendary landfall through history as their first port of call after the Galapagos on their voyages into the South Pacific.

The Tuamotu Atolls stretch for 800 miles from East to West; small islets in the making, each a circle of coral, most with a pass entrance; some have small local communities existing quietly in paradise. Others are attracting tourists to new 5-star resorts. The Tuamotus are becoming more sought after for the luxury crewed yacht charterer seeking that unique ultimate paradise.

Tahiti's main island and Papeete township is the port of entry for international travellers mostly by plane. Nearby Moorea is a popular tourist island with lots of hotels. If you like to make an overnight passage at sea, on a luxury yacht you could embark in Papeete, cruise to Moorea and make the 80 mile passage to Huahine and the Leeward Islands.

Geographically the Leeward Islands are majestic volcanic landscapes covered in lush tropical vegetation. Each island rises steeply from its lagoon and is circled by a protecting outer coral reef. Dotting the reef, small uninhabited motus (islets) are fringed by white sandy beaches and lush green coconut palms.

The island of Raiatea lies in the heart of the Leeward Islands, and just a 40-minute direct flight from Papeete. Raiatea shares a lagoon with Tahaa and lies within easy sight-sailing distance of the other magical islands of Bora Bora and Huahine. It's 24 miles eastward (and windward) to Huahine, and 22 miles north-west (and downwind) to Bora Bora.

A feature of these islands are the deep turquoise lagoons providing safe and sheltered cruising. Access to blue water sailing to the other islands is through passes in the reefs.

Ask the Team at the Luxury Charter Group for a sample itinerary.

Huahine

Huahine is a deeply spiritual island, that has done well to fob off the commercial development that is changing the face of Bora Bora.  Anchor off the village of Fare and discover some of the unique qualities of a small island village, go horse riding, or take a land tour to learn about the sacred archaeological sites of civilisation over a 1000 years ago. Cruise to the south of the lagoon and take a beachfront stroll, snorkel the underwater delights. A huge favourite with our charter guests is to explore the eastern lagoon of Huahine Iti, and to lunch IN the lagoon!

Raiatea

The township of Uturoa is the administrative centre for the Leeward Islands. According to legend, Raiatea is the sacred home of the gods, and the ancestral heart of French Polynesia. Visit the sacred sites and explore the river where the great canoes were built for their migratory voyages to Hawaii and New Zealand. It remains a mystery to us, why they chose to leave this magical island paradise. Admire the mountainous peaks of the south with their waterfalls cascading to the sea. Spend a few days relaxing and exploring the sheltered lagoon shared with the twin sister islands of Raiatea and Tahaa

Tahaa

Tahaa is the lush and tranquil island of vanilla. The sweet tropical aromas of vanilla and frangipani permeate the air. Unphased by the commercial world it is accessible only by boat, and is the only island in the group that you can completely circumnavigate.  Ashore, wander along the coral road that winds around the waterfront at dusk and meet the friendly and gentle locals.

Take a safari tour into the hinterland to visit the vanilla plantations, and natural botanical gardens.
Visit a pearl farm and learn all about the art of pearl cultivation.
Dinghy to the shallows of the reef and explore the sandy palm-clad islets encircling the turquoise lagoon.

Bora Bora

The fabled island where they make movies. Enjoy secluded anchorages in places accessible only by yacht. Venture to the east and lose yourselves in the blues, greens and turquoises of this beautiful lagoon. Pluck up the courage to swim with the turtles, sharks and rays you'll likely announce this a highlight of your charter!  Dine at the famous Bora Bora Yacht Club or Bloody Mary's, spend a day ashore, circumnavigate the island road by bicycle, scooter or car around the island. Ask The Luxury Charter Group Team about our favourite anchorages.

Climate

Chartering in Tahiti is all year round, but it's best to charter when the trade winds are blowing between April and October. Between the months of November - March it's the hot wet season, when it's very hot and humid with less breeze, so you'll enjoy the air-conditioning on board!

Luxury Charter Group Services
