About Yacht Charters in the Whitsunday Islands

The Whitsunday Islands lie just 90-minutes flight north of Brisbane.

The Islands lie within a large protected Marine Park and offer our charterer's some of the most sheltered cruising in the South Pacific. They are renowned for their lush rainforest, sandy deserted beaches, and spectacular fringing reefs. Good anchorages are plentiful and varied. Clear, warm waters, superb coral formations and marine life entice you to explore the superb coral kingdom and marine life beneath.

The Whitsundays offer something for everyone. You can slip away to uninhabited islands for lazy days, or if you hear the dance floor calling, set sail for the bright lights of an island resort. Secluded anchorages are seldom more than thirty minutes apart and discovering them from your own private yacht is the answer to anybody's dream.

With so many islands within relatively short distances, you can enjoy the freedom to change your own itinerary as the mood takes. Be as relaxed or adventurous as you like. Explore ashore and participate in your yacht's water sport activities, or just soak up the sunshine

Climate

Lying in the tropical zone, and cooled by the tradewinds for most of the year, the Whitsundays have an excellent climate. Popular times tend to be dictated by school holidays rather than the weather. Some of the best cruising weather can be found in the off-peak periods away from school holiday dates. At the Luxury Charter Group we prefer to send our clients to the Whitsundays September - early November.

Summer, December-March is the hot wet season, with high humidity and frequent rain showers. Cyclones can occasionally venture south to these latitudes and at the Luxury Charter Group we prefer not to offer charters in this season.

May - October is actually the preferred charter season, with warm days and cool evernings. The tradewinds usually blow slightly stronger from May to August. July is the coolest month. August - September are usually the driest months. Late September - early November onwards the trade winds abate and some say this is the best cruising weather in the Whitsundays.
